Nitrogen Diluted Endogas System

Improve annealing line operation with nitrogen diluted endogas

Endothermic gas generators provide little flexibility to tailor the atmosphere for the highest quality results. However, endothermic gas can be blended with nitrogen to adjust the atmosphere composition based on the specific carbon steel alloy being treated. For example, it may be desirable to reduce the dewpoint of the endo thus increasing the reducing potential for a brighter finish. Alternatively, the carbon potential of the atmosphere can range from neutral to carburizing based on the material being treated to range.

Benefits of Diluting Endogas with Nitrogen

Significant improvements have been achieved in part quality by the dilution of endogas with nitrogen resulting in:

  • Flexible atmosphere adjustment: from decarburizing to neutral to carburizing atmosphere compositions
  • Reduced variations in physical properties, e.g., dimensional changes, surface hardness
  • Improved microstructural homogeneity and less surface decarburization
  • Use for bright annealing
  • Low investment and installation costs
  • Continuous control via atmosphere analyzers and cloud connection
  • Safety features in accordance with EN 746-3
  • Design in accordance with ATEX

Benefits of Using Nitrogen Diluted Endogas

Reduced variations and spread in physical properties
Improved microstructural homogeneity and less surface decarburization
Producing components that meet stringent specifications
Reduced sooting and improved belt and fixture life

Industrial Gas Audits

Audits can be as broad or as narrow as required by your facility, from comprehensive assessments of the entire gas supply system – storage tanks all the way through the piping to the individual use points – to reviews of the gas flow control, metering, and blending equipment, or the actual furnaces and process equipment that use the gas. Air Products’ team of industry focused engineers has the hands-on knowledge to help you identify ways to add value to your operations.
